Ocean Miami Air 2nd Anniversary
Ocean Miami
Airways VA approaches its second year

January 1, 2006
I introduced Ocean Miami Airways VA. It made its debut here at
FlightSim.Com. This program was created with beginners in mind
and for those just wanting a place they could fly their sims
without all the structure of the mainstream VA. Our roster was
intended to support 20 pilots, of course over time you have to
clean out the shop. But the original 10 pilots are still with
OMA and I find that fascinating. Why? the average length of time
a virtual pilot will stay with a virtual airline is about six
months before they lose interest. So to have this band of
faithful pilots after all this time and being active tells me I'm
doing something right. What has changed at OMA and this is just
recent, is raising the bar. First let me say this, our original
roster of 20 were encouraged from the beginning to move to the
big league when they felt they were ready and many have done
just that and many choose to stay with OMA.
Now, what has
changed, is the introduction of structure. Instead of flying
whatever you want in the hangar our new system is more inline
with the industry and pilots can only fly aircraft in categories
based on their rating. Check-rides for new members and training
for beginners. Our routing system use to take you all the world
which is quite a task with a roster of 20 or less. In order to
make it a little more realistic our schedule has been totally
realigned and we have retired a half a dozen aircraft and
introduced aircraft that are inline with what is being flown in
the real world today. Also, our painters are creating textures
for many of the payware models that are parallel with what is
flown by OMA.
I have been
asked on occasion, why is the roster limited to 20. We have a
staff and they all perform certain functions, but to assure I
live up to my commitment, and that is the site and roster be
updated daily, rest on me. No one has access to the site except
me. All reports come to me directly and assures that the roster
is updated every evening and the log book is current. I have
done this faithfully for 2 years and the gang loves it. The
number 20 is arbitrary, I don't advertise on the site. So it's
word of mouth, based on this reality ( Lack of exposure) this is
where it was born.
So if your
looking for a small VA program with some of the flare of the
major mainstream programs pay us a visit. Don't let the
fictitious VA name be an obstacle we can't all emulate a real
world carrier.
