One million Facebook fans like Lufthansa

On April 22, 2012, Lufthansa welcomed its one millionth fan on its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/lufthansa. Lufthansa’s Facebook page went live in December 2009 and has been an important part of the company’s customer communication ever since. In March 2010, Lufthansa became one of the first airlines to offer 24/7 service by ensuring that inquiries from Facebook users are answered by the company around the clock.

Photos, videos and news from the world of Lufthansa are posted to the Facebook page along with inspiring travel ideas, tips and up-to-date information on everything to do with flying. The company is currently sharing exclusive material from its new “Nonstop you” advertising campaign on Facebook, and thanks to the new Timeline view users can also explore important milestones in Lufthansa’s history on its profile page. Last year, Lufthansa gave away a total of 1,000,000 miles in its Miles & More frequent flyer program during the MILEONAIRE campaign on Facebook. Lufthansa fans were also able to donate money directly through Facebook in a fund-raising campaign for HelpAlliance, an aid organization founded by Lufthansa employees.
Along with its Facebook page, Lufthansa is active on other social media platforms such as Twitter, YouTube and Xing, and there is also a Lufthansa blog featuring interesting stories from the company. In addition, thousands of travelers use the MySkyStatus.com application developed by Lufthansa so that their friends can keep track of their upcoming flights. This web service automatically sends status updates about user journeys to social networks like Facebook and Twitter.
